Chitwan National Park in the subtropical Terai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best place in Nepal to see wildlife. Jeep safaris, guided walks with a naturalist, canoe trips on the Rapti River and birdwatching sessions give a genuine chance of one-horned rhinoceros, gharial crocodile, sloth bear and — with luck and patience — Bengal tiger. It makes an easy two or three-night extension either side of a trek, at an altitude your lungs will appreciate.
